I Still Want an STi Hatchback?

As nice as the BRZ is, I still find myself lusting after the previous generation STi hatchback. Perhaps it's the extra power, perhaps it's the looks or perhaps it's the practicality. Regardless, I find myself wishing I had gotten the STi instead. Of course I have to do the responsible adult thing and keep the BRZ. Don’t get me wrong though, I still turn back and look at the BRZ lovingly as I walk away from it and I definitely enjoy driving it. I just can't shake off the subie-life apparently.

So Oppo, have you ever found yourself lusting after another car even though you chose a different one?

Pretty much every day of my life. That’s the car sickness, man. The grass is always greener, right? Also, I still can’t believe the STI hatches are worth as much as they are. How the hell am I supposed to get one as a dadmobile if it’s over $20k for an 8 year old car?

Not really the same situation, but I have a hand-me-down car and find myself constantly looking at:

a. Civic Coupes

b. IS250s

c. BRZs.

I’m conflicted.

Yup. I need to be leaving cars instead of buying. I had a ‘12 WRX hatch that I loved but then I found a ‘13 Golf R which is just sooo much nicer quality-wise but no power... but I have 6 gears now

Ain’t that always the case? I find myself in an endless car buying cycle of “I’ll finally be content if I buy X car”; get said car, get a year into ownership and dammit I want a different car.

I don’t know what it is when it comes to cars, I seem to have this blindspot for knowing what the heck I really want in the car; everything else in life is fine. Sigh.

Yes. And 26 different cars later, I’m still that way. Always will be. My wife thought that by buying something new, I’d be “satisfied”. I’m not. I’ve had the Taco 1.5 yrs and find myself looking for something older on CL. Before that, the FoST for a year. Before that, the Tundra for a year and a half.

I’m also terribly about finishing projects. I’m hoping the Cougar will finally be the one I get at least close to complete.

Seriously. These things are holding their value very well. If they were sub 20K I probably would have gotten it instead in the first place. Oh well, hopefully there’s still some clean examples left when I can justify one.

You’re probably better off with a used BRZ over a new civic coupe. Although the IS250 would be a hoot. Depends what you need at the end of the day really.
